A costumed sex worker will guide participants through the history of sex workers in the district Bülowkiez from 1884 to the present day, revealing a year’s worth of research into this topic. Financed by the Berlin Senat, the project “Historical Citizenship for the Sex Workers of Berlin” has been a joint research project between sex workers and the Schwules Museum. The tour comprises 6 stops, guiding the listener through sex worker history from the construction of U-Bahnhof Bülowstraße to today–and quotes from sex workers about their dreams for the future of their community. A digital version of this tour is also available via the Berlin History App.

Emma Pankhurst is a Sicilian-American ballet dancer, escort, sex worker’s rights activist, and trade unionist. She began her activism career almost as soon as she began criminalized sex work in the US, and currently is the General Secretary and Press Secretary of the trade union FAU Berlin, as well as a curator of the 2nd phase of Historical Citizenship for the Sex Workers of Berlin and a member of the Sex Worker Action Group.
